Beekeepers in Tizimín see recovery with rising honey prices after crisis in 2024

TIZIMÍN.- After the bad "streak" that beekeepers experienced in 2024 , producers are already seeing a slight respite with the recovery in the price of honey .
Last October, a kilo of the sweet was worth 23 pesos and today it is priced at 31 pesos, a significant increase that generates optimism in Tizimín and its surroundings.
Producers recalled that there were two bad seasons in a row when the price of honey even dropped below 20 pesos per kilo , which forced some small producers to abandon the activity, especially those with less than 20 hives .
Freddy Monforte Marfil, one of the most experienced beekeepers and owner of a collection center in the municipality, points out that, although the current price is still not what it should be , it is a relief that it is finally rising.

Monforte Marfil adds that the honey that is now being produced comes mainly from two types of flowering tajonal and guano, while vine honey has become scarce .
He recalled that the quality of the production, unlike last year , is very good, which is excellent news for beekeepers.

In fact, from January to date, 383 drums of honey have been purchased at its collection center, equivalent to 115 tons .
It indicates that all this product is being sent to Mérida for processing and from there it is exported to Europe .
Monforte Marfil is confident that the harvest in March, April and May will be even better, with the hope of achieving at least 115 more tons.
In fact, yesterday they sent a shipment of 56 drums, since the collection center in Mérida is saturated and there is not enough space to store more honey.
They say they are more than happy, including the producers, since they arrive at the collection center to deliver the product and are paid in cash .
