Letters to the editor: Reminder, equal rights?, medical residencies

Letters to the editor: Reminder, equal rights?, medical residencies

Reminder

Following Judge Preska's recent ruling in the shameful YPF case, I suggest that if, at any point during negotiations with creditors, the government decides to issue a bond, it should be called an Axel K Bond. This way, with each payment of principal and interest, Argentines, particularly taxpayers (in reality, we are all taxpayers), will remember the man who so clearly and didactically taught us how not to nationalize a company in violation of its bylaws. We will also remember, through the letter K, the surname of the president who opportunely arranged with Repsol to force the surrender of 25% of the company to those who will today receive the largest compensation in our profuse history of defaults and financial breaches.

A common law?

Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, for theft from the country, has been ordered to forfeit 84 billion pesos in a single case. Her poor performance as president has cost the country some $7 billion and the potential loss of 51% of YPF's shares. Her prison-apartment, with internet, social media, special guards, cell phones, visits, Zoom messages, balcony access, etc., is not equal before the law. Honorable judges: CFK, during her tenure as president and vice president, demonstrated, in her eagerness to "go all out," widespread and systematic harm to the subjugated people, resulting in deaths on the roads, a lack of vaccines, an endless pandemic, economic bankruptcy, social sectors lacking basic essential services, a people left ignorant by schools without classes, retirees without 82% of their mobile phones, and theft of AFJP funds. Let her go to a regular prison. That will be justice.

Medical residencies

The following headline appeared on the front page of La Nación yesterday: "Number of applicants for medical residencies increases." I found it eloquent. If the current strikes at Garrahan Hospital and then at Posadas Hospital were genuine and not politicized, why did the number of applicants increase by 5% compared to last year? Those of us who follow medical studies did so knowing that physicians' incomes have historically been low, but responding to a calling, an inescapable vocation.

Presidential language

I fully agree with reader Federico Giambastiani's words, and I add that someone who holds the highest office of a nation cannot express himself in such a vulgar and aggressive manner, setting a bad example for younger people and generating unpleasant revulsion for those of us who are not so young. From the head of state, we expect temperance and good manners, in addition to competence and ability. I believe he is not displaying the first two. If the President doesn't realize it, please let those around him know.

Exclusion

On Tuesday, June 24th, my son Enzo, a nine-year-old autistic child, was discriminated against by the Sukha rehabilitation center, located in City Bell, La Plata. They did so without knowing him, without seeing him, without evaluating him. The condition was as cruel as it was explicit: "We only evaluate him if he comes bathed and changed." Earlier this year, Enzo developed a severe phobia of personal hygiene, a recognized manifestation within the autism spectrum. Following professional advice, we cleaned him with wet wipes, with all the care, effort, and love that a mother and father can provide. And although we explained it clearly, they emphasized Enzo's "bad odor," which "we didn't smell because we weren't used to it." We then tried to bathe him. The result? A severe panic attack. We decided to go to the aforementioned center the next day to complain about the discrimination and about the failure to listen to the negative consequences of forcing an autistic child to perform an act to which he is phobic. When my wife, Wanda, complained to the director, she denied the discriminatory acts and called her a liar.

But the truth hurts and stands on its own: our son was discriminated against for a condition that is part of his diagnosis. Can an institution that claims to promote child inclusion act with such dehumanization? How is it possible that an autistic child is excluded because he doesn't meet a "presentation" standard, regardless of his reality or needs?

What we demand is the bare minimum: respect, professional training and ethics, and human sensitivity. What we received was the complete opposite.

I'm not writing this letter out of revenge. I'm writing it so that no other family suffers this humiliation. So that the word "inclusion" stops being an empty phrase. And so that no child is ever again turned away for not being able to bathe because something in their mind is preventing them from doing so.

ABL increases

Where do GCBA officials get the CPI to calculate the monthly increases in the ABL? Bills for July, August, and September 2025 accumulate a 13.25% increase compared to June (of the same year). How could they possibly think of increasing the ABL by 4.4% monthly? Didn't they realize that inflation is falling, that it was 1.5% in May and is estimated to be 1.9% in June? And they shouldn't forget to pay on the first due date because the second due date has a 13.60% increase "for 15 days." It's a real nonsense.

Spartans

The quiet and transformative work carried out by Eduardo "Coco" Oderigo and the entire Espartanos Foundation team with incarcerated people is appreciated and valued. Their work demonstrates that it is possible to change realities through sport (rugby in this case), faith, and social commitment. The State and the community as a whole should support and multiply these types of initiatives that build the future.
