Monkeypox: Surveillance in Huatulco is reinforced after a positive case of Mpox

After confirming a case of Mpox (monkeypox) in Santa María Huatulco , in the Costa region, the Oaxaca Health Services (SSO) maintains strict medical surveillance , following the protocol for these clinical cases.
Through a communication, the 26-year-old male patient went to receive medical attention at the General Hospital of Zone number 41 of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), located in Santa Cruz Huatulco, on February 20.
The patient presented symptoms of cephalocaudal rash with characteristics of macules, papules, vesicles and crust , as well as fever, headache, chills, ulcers, among others.
In response, the treating institution took samples that confirmed the presence of Mpox , so they activated the follow-up, without any other patient having been detected so far.
Furthermore, SSO maintains an intentional monitoring of cases in the fixed and mobile medical units of the 4th Coast Health Jurisdiction, to strengthen epidemiological surveillance.
In addition, the provision of condoms in health centres has been increased and society in general is called upon to use condoms as a method of preventing Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).
Preventive measures by Mpox include: Avoid physical contact with infected or suspected persons and their personal objects or materials, wash hands with soap and water or use antibacterial gel, cover nose and mouth with the inside of the elbow when sneezing or coughing.
In addition to avoiding sharing food, drinks, cutlery and plates, wearing a face mask, both for patients and for the people around them, washing the sick person's clothes, towels and sheets and eating utensils with warm water and detergent, cleaning and disinfecting contaminated surfaces.
If you have symptoms, try not to get close to other people, isolate yourself at home and go to the doctor for timely treatment.
