Nearly 50% of internet users fear censorship under telecommunications reform: study

MEXICO CITY (apro).- The discussion and possible approval of the reform to the Telecommunications Law promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum was rejected by more than 50% of social media users who commented on the issue.
The company Dinamic conducted a study on the comments that more than 168,000 users posted on social media about the reform initiative.
Of these, 49.7% were concerned about the potential censorship the initiative would entail, while 21.8% described it as an example of an authoritarian political model and expressed fear for the country's democratic future.
13.9% expressed distrust in the legislative process and demanded transparency in the discussion and approval of the reform, while 9.6% asserted that the reform will have economic consequences for the telecommunications industry and the digital environment.
Only 5% of the users surveyed expressed partial support for the reform, citing security concerns, as they perceive it as a measure of protection against digital threats.
Of the accounts analyzed, 51.01% belong to men and 38.37% to women, while 10.62% belong to institutions and institutional accounts.
