The Senate of the Republic unanimously awarded writer Silvia Molina the 2024 Rosario Castellanos Literary Merit Award.
The award will be presented to the author of La mañana debe seguir gris (1977) in a solemn session to be convened shortly.
The Culture Commission issued the corresponding call in November of last year, inviting public institutions, social and academic organizations of recognized prestige in the field of Mexican and world literature to nominate candidates for this award, as detailed in the explanatory statement of the ruling.
It is also noted that after the corresponding deliberations, the jury nominated three candidates for the award: Silvia Molina, Margo Glantz, and José Luis Riva.
The Political Coordination Board and the board of directors of that chamber opted for the narrator, essayist, and storyteller Silvia Molina, a proposal that was brought to the plenary session yesterday, where it was approved with 88 votes in favor, representing the necessary qualified majority.
Thus, it was agreed to notify the writer from Campeche, whose full name is Silvia Beatriz Pérez Celis and who in 1977 was awarded the Xavier Villaurrutia Prize, of the resolution.
