The young organist of the San Agustín temple: The sacred union of faith and talent
Salamanca, Gto.- High in the choir stalls of the San Agustín temple , where the heavenly harmony that springs from the liturgical organ resonates, there, among registers, keyboards and pedals, Víctor Damián González Alfaro finds his vocation and his way of glorifying God.
Since August 6, 2023, Víctor Damián has been the liturgical organist of San Agustín. He was invited by Fray Vicente , who was the prior of the temple and gave him the confidence to occupy the place left by the previous organist, an elderly person who retired.
Víctor Damián attended a priestly training center and began playing the organ there at the age of 15. His love and passion for music led him to meet with various teachers to expand his knowledge and enrich the creation of chords and textures using different registers and techniques of the polyphonic instrument.

His work is much more than simply playing the organ. By performing sacred music, Víctor Damián lifts the spirits of the faithful and enriches religious celebrations.
"It's sacred music that we dedicate ourselves to here; liturgical chants that accompany and embellish all the celebrations in this place," the organist commented.
Víctor Damián is grateful to God and the Augustinian friars for the opportunity to be the organist at San Agustín, a very emblematic religious site, a historic temple with great structural beauty.
"I feel very proud, especially when I hear the assembly singing and I'm playing. Unfortunately, these days there are no organists anymore. I feel very proud and grateful to God for giving me this opportunity to play here in San Agustín."
In each performance, Víctor Damián combines his talent for organ playing with a unique voice. To provide musical accompaniment for religious ceremonies, he uses a Hammond organ , which was installed in the San Agustín church on November 27, 1947, under the direction of Fray Reginaldo SJ Vega.

“All this work is for the glory of God, who is our main goal, and also for my family, who has supported me greatly in all aspects of my music.”
The Salamanca-born organist, who is about to turn 22, invites young people to follow the calling and vocation of music, whether in a church or outside of it. "Go for it, it's a wonderful opportunity. It will be difficult at first, but God will give us the strength to continue on this path."
