Instagram @ditomasodesignWith winter just around the corner, many Argentinians are worried about keeping their homes protected from the cold without causing their gas or electricity bills to skyrocket. But a 100% Argentine invention promises to change the way homes are heated: an eco-friendly stove that requires no installation, no electrical or gas connection, and runs on a renewable and affordable fuel: ethyl alcohol .
The development was the brainchild of Gabriel and Matías Di Tomaso, father and son, who brought this innovative heating system to life in the midst of a personal and professional crisis . “In 2017, after several financial setbacks, my psychologist told me: do something you really love ,” recalls Gabriel, who found refuge in his mother's garage workshop, making decorative heaters.
It was his son, Matías, then a tennis teacher, who saw the potential: “I realized that these heaters could become real stoves for the home, especially in places where there is no gas or where electricity is insufficient,” he told TN.

Di Tomaso stoves run on 96% ethyl alcohol, making them an environmentally friendly, safe, and fossil-free alternative . They also don't emit toxic gases or require maintenance. "They have a lifespan of more than 10 years and don't require any installation. Anyone can use them," says Matías.
There are currently two models on the market: one that generates 3,000 kilocalories per hour, ideal for spaces up to 30 square meters, and a more powerful one that reaches 4,000. Its consumption is very efficient: one liter of alcohol every four hours on maximum mode. The burner also includes a regulating cap to adjust the desired amount of heat.

One of the most notable features of the invention is its safety system. The alcohol doesn't remain liquid, but is absorbed into a stone cloth, preventing spills if dropped. And for added functionality, some models come with wheels that allow the stove to be easily moved from one room to another.
"It can also be used in the summer as a garden decoration, and you can add citronella oil to it to repel insects. The burner is removable , so it has multiple uses," adds Matías.
A solution for every homeThe surprising thing about this phenomenon is that demand comes not only from rural areas or those with limited access to services, but also from high-income sectors. “We receive messages from all over the country. There are families from poor neighborhoods where natural gas is unavailable, and also clients from country clubs looking for a more sustainable alternative,” says Matías.
Many people even choose to purchase just the burner to adapt it to salamanders or wood-burning stoves, thus avoiding the need to purchase and transport logs.
What began as a therapeutic recommendation ended up becoming a family business that continues to grow. “We never thought we would help so many people with something so simple,” reflects Gabriel. And Matías proudly sums it up: “With this stove, heating is no longer a luxury. Warming up in winter can also be sustainable.”
