Disturbing reports from Warsaw. A 10-month-old baby was admitted to hospital with injuries that, according to doctors, may indicate abuse. The case has been investigated by the Warsaw-Praga Południe District Prosecutor's Office.
A dramatic event occurred on July 22nd. It was then that the infant came under the care of doctors at a Warsaw hospital.
Was the child beaten? The Warsaw prosecutor's office is investigating the case.As Karolina Staros, spokeswoman for the Warsaw-Praga District Prosecutor's Office, announced in an official statement, the injuries to the child's body aroused the suspicions of medical personnel.
"According to the doctor providing assistance, these injuries may indicate the use of violence against the child," the prosecutor said.
The police have already taken the first steps. A hospital representative has been questioned, and the collected evidence has been forwarded to the appropriate law enforcement agencies. The investigation into this case began on July 25th and is being conducted under Article 207, paragraph 1a of the Penal Code, which concerns physical or psychological abuse of a person who is vulnerable due to age, mental condition, or physical incapacity.
Such an offence is punishable by imprisonment from 6 months to 8 years .
"The investigation is at an early stage. Further steps will be taken to determine whether the child was a victim of abuse. The appropriate Family Court has been notified of the child's situation," said Prosecutor Staros.
