Alpina Changes Logo. A New Era Under BMW's Wings from 2026
A new chapter in Alpina's history has officially begun. BMW has registered a new trademark for the brand with the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA). Simultaneously, registrations were made with intellectual property offices in Costa Rica, Uruguay, Thailand, and the European Union.
The new emblem follows the existing design but introduces significant changes. Instead of the characteristic coat of arms, a simplified, two-part circle now appears in the center, with the left and right sides contrasting in black and white. The technical motifs—a single throttle valve and crankshaft—remain, but their form has been simplified, reflecting a modern, flattering aesthetic. The colors blue and red, previously integral to the logo, have disappeared . However, they may reappear in future variants. Despite the new typography, which BMW registered in 2023, the Alpina logo does not use the company's new font. It is unclear whether this is a conscious distinction or part of the ongoing design process.
Alpina's current emblem has been in use since 1967. It was created after BMW rejected the original version of the logo with white and blue rhombuses – inspired by the colors of Bavaria and Alpina's close relationship with BMW. Burkard Bovensiepen, the company's founder, designed his own emblem at that time , featuring two carburetors and a camshaft. In 1974, these were replaced by a single throttle valve and crankshaft – symbols of power and precision. Since 2002, the emblem has been in use in a three-dimensional version.
