An idyllic stroll was interrupted by tragedy. A grandmother and her 9-month-old granddaughter were injured after a sudden attack.

The tragedy occurred on Friday afternoon (September 12th) in the Skórzec commune near Siedlce. Police and doctors are revealing details of the incident, which shocked residents. The 9-month-old girl who was attacked remains in hospital.

Dog attack while walking

On September 12th, an elderly woman was out for a walk with her 9-month-old granddaughter. At the same time, two American Staffordshire Terriers jumped out of a car parked nearby.

According to Commissioner Ewelina Radomyska, press officer for the Siedlce Municipal Police Headquarters, the dogs "got out of the car after the passenger opened the door" and immediately attacked passersby. A 58-year-old woman and the infant she was caring for were injured.

Baby still in hospital

Both victims were taken to hospital. The elderly woman was quickly discharged, but the child's condition appeared more serious.

"These injuries were so serious that they resulted in hospitalization in the pediatric surgery ward. The young patient required treatment and remains in our hospital to this day," Mariusz Mioduski, medical director of the Masovian Voivodeship Hospital in Siedlce, told Radio Dla Ciebie.

However, doctors do not reveal what exact injuries the girl suffered.

Dogs under observation

Investigators are investigating the circumstances of the attack. Police are investigating whether the dogs were endangered. It was determined that the dogs were vaccinated and were placed under observation by the District Veterinary Officer.

The owner of the Amstaffs is a 58-year-old resident of the Siedlce commune, who was driving the car at the time of the incident. According to police, there have been no previous reports of aggression in these animals.
