Pope Francis' Health Status: Vatican Issues Urgent Statement

Pope Francis' Health Status: Vatican Issues Urgent Statement

The Vatican has issued a statement on the health of Pope Francis. A slight improvement has been noted, the Vatican reported. The Pope is in the Gemelli Polyclinic for 11 days.

"The critical condition of the Holy Father shows a slight improvement," the Vatican press service said in a medical bulletin Monday. The statement said there was no respiratory crisis and the mild kidney failure was not a cause for concern.

The results of some laboratory tests have improved, it added. Pope Francis continues oxygen therapy, but his doses have been reduced.

Pope Francis is struggling with bilateral pneumonia and mild kidney failure. He is conscious. On Monday, as Reuters reported unofficially, citing an anonymous Vatican official, the Holy Father was supposed to get up and move around the hospital room. He was also supposed to eat normally.

However, it is difficult to further predict his health condition.

On Monday at 9 p.m. in St. Peter's Square, a rosary will be prayed for the Pope's health. It will be led by the Secretary of State of the Holy See, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
