"Unfortunately, despite the immediate rescue action, the 37-year-old miner could not be saved," KGHM reported on Sunday morning. On Saturday evening, rock masses collapsed at the Polkowice-Sieroszowice Mining Plant. Two miners were brought to the surface, the injured were taken to hospitals.
"On July 5 this year after 9:10 p.m. in the Polkowice-Sieroszowice Mining Plant, in the GG-3 area, a rockfall occurred in a retention reservoir being cleaned. Three employees were in the danger area, " reads the announcement on the KHGM website.

On Sunday morning it was reported that the missing third miner unfortunately did not survive.
"Unfortunately, despite immediate rescue operations, the 37-year-old miner could not be saved. The other two injured were taken to local hospitals with minor injuries," the release said.
A special commission will investigate the causes of the accident.
"By decision of the Management Board of KGHM, a three-day mourning period was introduced in all branches of the company. We express our condolences to the family, friends and acquaintances of the deceased," it was written.
