Will Johnny Depp return as Jack Sparrow? Talks with the actor are ongoing.

Fans of Johnny Depp and his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" film series will be pleased to hear that a return of the popular actor to the series is still possible. This was announced by the producer of the pirate film saga, Jerry Bruckheimer.

"If he likes the way his role is written, I think he'll come back. It all depends on how it plays out in the script. We're still working on it. We want to make this movie. We just have to have a good script. We're not there yet, but we're close," Jerry Bruckheimer told Entertainment Weekly about a potential sixth film in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series .

Johnny Depp starred in five films in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise, from 2003 to 2017. They grossed a combined total of over $4.5 billion. However, the future of not only the franchise but also, and more importantly, Depp himself, was in jeopardy due to his high-profile trial against his ex-wife, Amber Heard. A favorable verdict opened the door for him to return to Hollywood. However, it's uncertain whether Disney would welcome him back as Sparrow.

Depp is currently returning to Hollywood with a role in Mark Webb's thriller "Day Drinker." It tells the story of a mysterious stranger who befriends a grieving bartender mourning his beloved. Another project the actor is attached to is Terry Gilliam's upcoming film "The Carnival at the End of Days," in which he will play Satan.

Will there be a sixth installment of "Pirates of the Caribbean"?

A sixth installment of "Pirates of the Caribbean" has been regularly announced since 2020, but no specifics have been released regarding its eventual production. At one point, in addition to "Pirates of the Caribbean 6," written by Craig Mazin and Ted Elliott, plans also included a female-led version of the story, starring Margot Robbie.

In 2022, the "Barbie" star announced that the project had fallen through, but Bruckheimer later denied the allegations. Jeff Nathanson is currently working on the script for the sequel. It's unclear whether he's using Mazin's script in any way.
