'Gilmarpalooza': Senate pays for 6 parliamentarians to travel to Lisbon

'Gilmarpalooza': Senate pays for 6 parliamentarians to travel to Lisbon

Members of parliament have up to 90 days to submit receipts for their expenses and be reimbursed by the House. Eduardo Gomes and Daniela Ribeiro informed the Senate that they will participate in another event in the Portuguese capital, in addition to the legal forum. The organizers of the Lisbon Forum also confirmed the participation of senators Ciro Nogueira (PP-PI) and Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG).

The president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União Brasil-AP), was announced as a speaker, but will not travel due to the discomfort with the government caused by the overturn, last week, of the decree on the Tax on Financial Operations (IOF).

Estadão requested the Chamber of Deputies for a list of all the deputies who requested authorization to leave the country in order to participate in the Lisbon Forum, whether on an official mission or not. The Chamber refused to share the information, which is publicly accessible in the Senate, and did not say who will pay for the parliamentarians to attend the event.

Speakers

As of last night, 12 deputies had been announced as speakers, including the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB). Ministers of the Supreme Court were also announced as speakers, as well as businessmen.

"Gilmarpalooza", the nickname given to the forum because it is held under Gilmar's leadership, annually moves political power from Brasília to the capital of Portugal. The event is held at the University of Lisbon and covers a range of topics, from law to technological change, but it is the parallel activities that mobilize some of the participants. This year, the theme is The Changing World - Law, Democracy and Sustainability in the Intelligent Age.
