Actress was the target of negative comments after the interview.
Benedita Pereira, 39, came into the spotlight after starring in the first season of the hit youth series 'Morangos com Açúcar' (TVI). Although this participation taught her a lot and opened doors for her in the world of acting, it wasn't all smooth sailing.
The actress recalled some of the episodes she experienced during the filming of the TVI soap opera. "I think I was put in situations that made me uncomfortable and at the time I couldn't say no because they said that an actor had to be free of prejudices and that almost meant being naked too. In the first week of filming I was without a bra in the back of a van. I've already talked about this. At the time it was a 'had to be', it wasn't even mentioned. I know that nowadays that doesn't happen anymore, there is more care" , she said in an interview with CNN Portugal.
And he continued: "They said: 'You don't know how to kiss on the mouth. You have to open your mouth and I don't know what...' And I didn't have the courage to say anything to my colleague either. There was no openness, there were many taboos and I wanted to please everyone."
Parts of the interview were shared on the TV channel's social media and in the comments it is possible to read several insults and hateful words towards Benedita Pereira. "Another one who went up lying down" , " You didn't like her very much, that's one of the ways to become famous... horizontally" , "Poor thing... That's called adulthood. Join the other billions of people on the planet" or "Poor thing... another victim... her innocence is clear... in fact, it always was... another one... anyway" , are some examples.
The artist decided to respond: "Yesterday, I was interviewed on CNN. Fortunately, I received some nice messages from people I don't know and from people I'm close to. However, I made the mistake of reading the comments on a CNN post that included a small excerpt from the interview. The amount of cruel, malicious and highly misinformed comments (mostly written by men) is truly heartbreaking. Fortunately, I'm almost 40 years old and have some experience to read these things and move on with my life, but it makes me very sad that there is so much evil and misogyny out there: people who, cowardly, say the most outrageous things and always have the insult at their fingertips because they know they will never suffer the consequences. How long will anything go on the internet?"
