Pope Francis' condition has improved slightly, the Vatican said on Monday, adding that the "kidney failure" that was first reported on Sunday (23) was "no cause for concern".
In the statement, the Vatican clarifies that there have not yet been any respiratory crises today, but that the prognosis for his recovery remains "guarded", despite there having been an improvement in the results of medical examinations.
In the wake of this, the Reuters news agency also reported that the leader of the Catholic Church had summed up some work on Monday afternoon and that he would later contact the parish in Gaza.
A Vatican official told Reuters that Pope Francis is now eating normally and is able to get out of bed and walk around his hospital room.
The 88-year-old pontiff was hospitalized on February 14 following bilateral pneumonia. He is now spending his 11th night at Rome's Gemelli Hospital, making it his longest hospital stay. Despite having a respiratory crisis on Friday, he has been more stable since Sunday, resting and improving.
