Director John Carpenter was one of the first people to react to the death of actor Peter Jason on February 20 in California, after contracting cancer. They first worked together on the epic horror film Prince of Darkness in 1987. Over the next decade, Carpenter would often turn to Jason as a handyman, the man on hand to sow the seeds. This was the case in the films They Live , City of the Damned and Escape from L.A. , and when the actor, born in the Hollywood neighborhood (Los Angeles) in 1944, died, the director left no doubt: "He is one of the great character actors. He was a dear friend and I will miss him very much."
