Mota-Engil achieves record profit and sees order book soar to all-time high of €15.6 billion
Mota-Engil's profit in 2024 rose 8%, with the Portuguese construction company's turnover reaching an all-time high, as did its order book, which has Angola, Mexico and Nigeria as its main markets
Mota-Engil achieved its highest profit ever in 2024, with net income growing 8% to 123 million euros, the Portuguese construction company revealed in a statement to the Securities Market Commission (CMVM).
The turnover of the group led by Carlos Mota dos Santos also grew by 7% compared to the previous year, reaching 5,951 million euros, which corresponds to a new historical high. Although revenues in the construction sector in Europe fell by 12%, the growth of 15% in Africa and 8% in Latin America were more than enough to generate a new turnover record for Mota-Engil.
“The strong performance in Africa, especially in the second half of the year, reinforces confidence in the growth trend in 2025 and beyond, particularly with excellent profitability prospects and given that the order book for the coming years is guaranteed”, notes the construction company.
EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) increased by 14% in 2024, to 955 million euros.
Mota-Engil's annual accounts were also marked by a new historical high in the group's order book, which rose from 12.9 billion euros at the end of 2023 to 15.6 billion euros at the end of 2024.
The majority of this portfolio is in the engineering and construction business, with 15.3 billion euros, of which 43% in highways, 27% in railways, 25% in industrial engineering and 5% in civil construction.
African markets cover 65% of Mota-Engil's total order book, Latin America accounts for 27% and Europe for 6%.
By country, the most relevant markets in Mota-Engil's order book are Angola (21%), Mexico (20%) and Nigeria (13%).
