Nova Iguaçu thrashes Barcelona-RO away from home and qualifies for the Copa do Brasil

Another team from Rio de Janeiro has qualified for the second phase of the Brazilian Cup. On Wednesday night (26), Nova Iguaçu thrashed Barcelona from Porto Velho 4-1. Jorge Pedra, Gabriel Pinheiro, Victor Rangel and Xandinho scored the goals for the team from Baixada Fluminense at the Aluízio Ferreira Stadium in Rondônia.
With this result, Laranja da Baixada joins Vasco, Fluminense and Olaria in the sequence of the national tournament. Botafogo and Flamengo , champions of last year's Libertadores and Copa do Brasil, respectively, enter only the third phase of the knockout stage.
Nova Iguaçu, in fact, is eligible to face one of these Rio teams in the second phase. It is Vasco, who eliminated União Rondonópolis-MT in Cariacica, in Espírito Santo.
The team from Rondônia went all out and opened the scoring just two minutes into the game, with striker João Paulo. But Nova Iguaçu did not give in and reacted immediately after Jorge Pedra scored the ball, making it all even. From then on, the team coached by Carlos Vitor began to control the game despite the poor conditions of the pitch. The comeback came in the 23rd minute with defender Gabriel Pinheiro, one of the standout players for Laranja da Baixada this season.
At a disadvantage, Barcelona-RO could not find their place on the field and saw the team from Rio de Janeiro extend their lead. Six minutes into the second half, center forward Victor Rangel scored the third goal. At 34 minutes, Xandinho took advantage of a counterattack to turn the score into a rout and confirm their qualification for the second phase.
