Portuguese emigration to Andorra at an all-time low

Portuguese emigration to Andorra at an all-time low

"There were 146 Portuguese who entered Andorra in 2024, according to data from the Andorran Statistics Department; this agency registered a total of 4,591 foreign arrivals to the country, with Portuguese citizens representing 3.2% of immigration that year," says a note from the Emigration Observatory.

In the note, the Observatory highlights that “after a slight decrease in 2023, Portuguese emigration to Andorra registered a more significant drop in 2024”, of 26.6%, which followed the general decline for the territory of 24.1%.

“After a peak in 2005, emigration to this country fell sharply between that year and 2014, remaining stable at comparatively low levels since then,” the text further notes, noting that “the largest drop occurred in 2008, at 54%, reflecting the abrupt and profound nature of the housing crisis in Spain.”

The drop in 2024 contradicts the trend of recent years, in which there was a “very slight increase”, according to the Observatory, which concludes that there was “a relative loss of importance of Portuguese immigration”, since “if in 2007 the Portuguese represented 34.9% of migrant entries into Andorra, in 2024 they represented only 3.2%”.
