Threatened by Trump with losing her citizenship, actress Rosie O'Donnell reacts: 'Heartless old man'

Threatened by Trump with losing her citizenship, actress Rosie O'Donnell reacts: 'Heartless old man'

American artist Rosie O'Donnell , currently in self-exile in Ireland , reacted after being threatened by Donald Trump , this Saturday (12), with having her citizenship revoked.

On social media, Rosie called the American president a "heartless, dangerous, demented old man who lacks empathy, compassion, or basic humanity."

After the artist criticized the government's handling of the floods in Texas, Trump wrote on his social media account Truth that he was considering revoking her basic rights as an American citizen.

"Because Rosie O'Donnell is not in the best interests of our great country, I am seriously considering revoking her citizenship. She is a threat to humanity and should remain in the wonderful country of Ireland if they want her there. God bless America."

"I'm in direct opposition to everything he stands for, as are millions of others," Rosie retorted. "Are you going to deport everyone who goes against your perverse tendencies? You're a bad joke who can't even form a coherent sentence," she said.

Under U.S. law, a president cannot revoke the citizenship of an American born in the United States. O'Donnell was born in New York state to an Irish father and an American mother.

The comedian moved to Ireland earlier this year with her 12-year-old daughter, shortly after Trump took office for a second term. At the time, she stated that she intended to return "when the US is a safe country for everyone."

A lesbian mother of five, Rosie was a prominent activist for LGBTQIA+ rights regarding marriage, adoption, and motherhood.

The feud between the comedian and the current American president dates back two decades, when she made jokes about him, then a businessman and owner of the Miss Universe pageant, on her former comedy show The View.

"I never thought I would be an immigrant. But it was the decision I believed would be best for me and my 12-year-old daughter. I'm happy, Dakota is happy. I miss my other children, my friends, and home. I'm trying to find a home in this beautiful country. When it's safe for all citizens to live in the US, then I'll consider coming back," Rosie said in March.

The artist is also mother to Parker, 29, Chelsea, 27, Blake, 25, and Vivienne, 22, all adopted with her ex-wife Michelle Rounds, who died in 2017. Throughout her 62 years, Rosie was a symbol in the fight for adoption rights for same-sex couples. She even had one of her children removed from her home by the state of Florida in 2001.

Rosie O'Donnell has appeared in numerous sitcoms, films, plays, and television shows. She played Betty in the live-action "The Flintstones" (1994) and was a cast member in classics such as "Sleepless in Seattle" (1993) and "Tarzan" (1999). She also hosted two popular talk shows, "The Rosie O'Donnell Show" and "The View," both of which received multiple Emmy nominations and wins.
