Forest fire controlled in the municipality of Avis

A forest fire that broke out this Saturday early afternoon in the municipality of Avis, district of Portalegre, is in the process of being resolved, a source from Civil Protection revealed to the Lusa news agency.

The source from the Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command of Alto Alentejo indicated that the fire was controlled at 2:58 pm.

According to the same source, the alert for the fire, which broke out in Monte do Cantarinho in the area of ​​the Union of Parishes of Benavila and Valongo, was given at 12:39 pm, with no injuries or homes affected.

The fire consumed an area of ​​scrubland and cork oak and eucalyptus forests, he added.

According to the sub-regional command, 133 operators were involved in fighting the flames, supported by 40 vehicles and five aerial resources.
