Four convicted of the death of a young man stabbed in Alverca

Four convicted of the death of a young man stabbed in Alverca

Four young men who in February last year planned and stabbed another young man to death in Alverca do Ribatejo, Vila Franca de Xira, were sentenced to between 18 and 20 years in prison.

According to a note published on the website of the Lisbon Regional Attorney General's Office, four defendants — two girls and two boys, aged between 20 and 25 — were convicted of qualified homicide, possession of a prohibited weapon and qualified theft.

The decision, dated July 7, states that the two girls were sentenced to a single term of 20 years in prison, and the boys to terms of 19 years and three months in prison and 18 years and nine months in prison, respectively. The crime occurred in Alverca do Ribatejo on February 6, 2024.

The 19-year-old victim was lured into meeting his ex-girlfriend and ended up surrounded and stabbed by a group of young men . The boy was treated on the street by emergency crews, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The court found it proven that the four defendants acted “in communion and combined efforts, means and intentions”, fulfilling a previously prepared and devised plan with the purpose of killing the victim.

He also understood that the defendants knew that the attacks perpetrated, whether due to the physical force used, their repetition, the use of kitchen knives and the vital parts of the body hit, “ were suitable to cause his death ”, as happened.

The Public Prosecutor's Office requested an increase in the coercive measures applied to the two defendants, who were free until the final decision becomes final. The other two co-defendants remain in pre-trial detention.
