US aircraft carrier arrives off Israeli coast?

Several posts circulating on Facebook and Instagram share what they say are images of a US aircraft carrier arriving off the coast of Israel. “US aircraft carrier arriving off the coast of Israel with the F-35 Predator show,” reads one of the posts. The video shows an F-35 fighter jet, one of the most advanced in the world, approaching an aircraft carrier.

The video in question has been circulated at a time of heightened tension in the Middle East. On June 13, Israel launched a large-scale military offensive against Iran, with the aim of dismantling the Tehran regime's nuclear program. According to Tel Aviv, Iran is already close to possessing nuclear weapons, which, if it were to happen, would be an existential threat to Israel.

In recent days, Israeli fighter jets have also extended attacks to various military infrastructures across much of Iranian territory and have also targeted state television, for example.

Iran responded to the attacks by launching hundreds of missiles at Israel. According to the latest count by the Iranian Ministry of Health, 224 people have died. Despite being robust, Israel's various air defense systems were unable to stop all the Iranian missiles (some of which were hypersonic), which resulted in the deaths of at least 14 people.

This weekend, the United States became directly involved in the conflict : American B2 bombers struck three nuclear facilities on Iranian territory.

The US and Iran versions of the attack on nuclear infrastructure and what the Atomic Energy Agency knows so far

Previously, the US Secretary of Defense had already announced, on X, the sending of “additional resources” to the region, in what, at that time, was interpreted as the adoption of a defensive posture, to help protect Israel, a long-time ally.

On June 16, a Pentagon official confirmed to the Navy Times website, which specializes in naval affairs, that the US had withdrawn the giant aircraft carrier USS Nimitz from the Indo-Pacific region to relocate it to the Middle East. Another aircraft carrier was already in this region: the USS Carl Vinson.

However, the images shared on social media do not show the arrival of one of these aircraft carriers on the coast of Israel. The images depict the moment when an F-35B lands on the Italian aircraft carrier Cavour C-550 during military exercises of “Mare Aperto 2025”, a training exercise in the Mediterranean promoted annually by the Italian Navy.

The images of the aircraft carrier that appear in the video match those released by the Italian Navy in a video published on YouTube , namely the inscription of the number 550 in large dimensions on the central part of the aircraft carrier. In the video circulating on social media, it is also possible to see the Italian flag flying.

Conclusion

The images shared on social media do not show the arrival of one of these aircraft carriers on the coast of Israel. It is an Italian F-35 landing on the Cavour C-550 aircraft carrier, the largest in the Italian fleet.
