Russia wants to fight hogweed in a new way: the State Duma has prepared a bill

In Russia, specific methods of combating the ruthless hogweed may be introduced at the legislative level. Thus, the State Duma is preparing to consider in the second reading an initiative aimed at combating alien plants, including hogweed. As the chairman of the relevant committee, Sergei Gavrilov ( CPRF ), told RIA Novosti, the bill provides for specific methods of destroying such plant species, including the use of chemicals.

“The new version defines specific mechanisms for combating such plant species, including mechanical removal, the use of chemicals and biological agents,” Gavrilov explained.

The updated version of the document legislatively introduces the term “dangerous alien plant species”, defined as invasive flora that poses a threat to the population, the agricultural sector or the ecological balance.

The day before, the State Duma proposed introducing a 15% limit on the markup of certain products.
