Seven people injured in explosion in five-story building in Russian city

In the city of Ivdel in the Sverdlovsk region, seven people were injured in an explosion in a five-story residential building, the regional information policy department reports.

On the night of June 25-26, 2025, an explosion followed by a fire occurred in an apartment building. According to the regional police department, two residents of the apartment where the emergency occurred died. At the moment, their remains are being removed from under the collapsed structures. According to the Investigative Committee, the preliminary cause of the incident is considered to be the detonation of a gas cylinder.

According to initial information, the number of victims reached seven people, four of whom were taken to the Ivdel Central District Hospital. Rescue units continue to search for residents of the damaged apartment, the report specifies.

According to official information, 29 people, including eight minors, have been evacuated from the building. The local administration has set up a temporary accommodation centre at the Ivdel Hotel, although at the moment all evacuated residents have been accommodated with relatives. Specialists from Yekaterinburg will be invited to inspect the condition of the load-bearing elements of the building.

The Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the region has opened a criminal case on the fact of the emergency under the article on the provision of services that do not meet the standards of safety of life and health of consumers.
