Scientists have predicted the strongest solar flare in 2025 X.2.0

The Space Weather Forecasting Center has revealed what the highest-class solar flare will result in
Several powerful solar flares occurred on February 23, 2025. Among them was a flare of the highest class X-X 2.0.

As reported to MK by the Space Weather Forecasting Center of the Institute of Terrestrial Magnetism and Radio Wave Propagation of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IZMIRAN), three class M flares were initially recorded, the most powerful of which was M.4.9. Then, closer to the evening, the strongest class X flare with index 2.0 (X.2.0) since the beginning of the year was recorded on the solar disk. A similar one occurred on December 8, 2024.
According to experts, despite the highest class of this natural phenomenon, it is unlikely to have an impact on the Earth; at least, scientists do not expect strong magnetic storms from X.2.0.
- The thing is that all the flares on February 23 occurred on the western limb of the solar disk, that is, they were not directed at our planet, - said the head of the IZMIRAN Center for Solar and Astronomical Research Maria Abunina. - Therefore, most of their energy, according to all calculations, should bypass us.
Meanwhile, according to Abunina, several coronal holes have appeared on the Sun, which could turn into a magnetic storm for us if the solar matter emitted from them is directed directly at us. Its emission could end up on the direct Sun-Earth line in 3-4 days.
