BREAKING NEWS: Former Nilüfer Mayor Turgay Erdem arrested

On October 10, teams from the Bursa Provincial Police Department's Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime (KOM) Branch conducted simultaneous operations in three provinces, centered in Bursa, on the instructions of the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Twenty-two of the 23 suspects for whom detention warrants were issued were apprehended and taken into custody. Following processing at the police station, 15 of the suspects, including Turgay Erdem , were referred to the courthouse and subsequently arrested. Erdem's wife, Zeynep Terzioğlu Erdem, and six other suspects were released on probation.

The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office made a statement on the issue. The following statements were made in the statement: “Within the scope of the investigation conducted by our Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office for the crimes of ‘Establishing and leading an organization for the purpose of perpetrating a crime, and being a member of an organization established for the purpose of perpetrating a crime, and laundering assets derived from crime’; in the simultaneous operation conducted on 10.10.2025 in 3 provinces centered in Bursa by the officers of the Bursa Provincial Police Department’s Smuggling and Organized Crimes Branch against 23 suspects upon the instructions of our Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office; 22 suspects were caught and detained, our Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office requested the arrest of 18 suspects and referred 4 suspects to the Bursa Criminal Judgeship of Peace on Duty with a request for judicial control, Bursa Criminal Judgeship of Peace on Duty issued arrest orders for 15 suspects and judicial control orders for 7 suspects, in the searches conducted within the scope of the operation, some cash and jewelry, real estate, vehicles , bank and cryptocurrency accounts were seized, and also, a trustee was appointed to 1 company through the TMSF within the scope of the investigation, It is respectfully announced to the public that the suspects for whom arrest warrants were issued by the Bursa Criminal Judge of Peace on Duty have been sent to the Closed Penal Institution appropriate to their location, that the arrest efforts for one fugitive suspect are continuing, that the investigation is being carried out meticulously by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and that information regarding the investigation's progress and outcome will be provided.
