EU leaders meet in extraordinary pre-summit video conference on March 6

The leaders, who gathered under the chairmanship of EU Council President Antonio Costa, also heard details about the meeting from French President Emmanuel Macron , who met with US President Donald Trump in Washington on February 25.
Costa, who shared a post about the meeting from his X account, stated that Macron's briefings were important before the extraordinary summit on " Ukraine and defense " to be held on March 6.
The online meeting, attended by all 27 leaders, lasted approximately 30 minutes.
EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also attended the meeting.
"Uncertainty, unpredictability, agreements. Are these really the rules on which the new international order should be based?" Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote on social media after a meeting with his counterparts.
EU LEADERS TO MEET ON MARCH 6
While EU representatives frequently express their desire to take part in the talks initiated by Trump to end the war in Ukraine, they are also seeking ways to increase military support to Ukraine.
Speaking after the EU Foreign Ministers Meeting held on February 24, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas stated that a new military aid initiative for Ukraine was discussed.
This new initiative aims to create a new joint fund to provide artillery, air defense systems and training equipment assistance to Ukraine in the short term, while the final decision on the value of the fund and other details is expected to be made at the extraordinary summit.
Another agenda item of the extraordinary summit will be ways to increase Europe's defense spending and investments and strengthen defense.
While NATO is expected to update its target of having each ally allocate 2 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) to defense spending this year, the United States has announced that the new target should be 5 percent.
This situation became a new pressure element for European countries, which allocated an average of 1.9 percent of their GDP to defense, and ways to meet the newly determined target began to be discussed.
A new proposal to significantly increase EU countries' defense spending is also expected to be discussed at next week's summit.
