On the night of February 25-26, 1992, Armenian forces under the control of the 366th Russian Regiment attacked civilians and massacred children, men, women and the elderly.
The Khojaly Genocide, in which 613 Azerbaijani Turks, including 83 children and 106 women, lost their lives according to official figures, is commemorated every year in Azerbaijan and various parts of the world, and those responsible for the bloody murder are demanded to be punished.
Under the leadership of the Türkiye Azerbaijan Friendship Cooperation and Solidarity Foundation, the Khojaly Commemoration Meeting was held in the Turkish Grand National Assembly on its 33rd anniversary.
Professor Aygün Attar, the head of the Turkey-Azerbaijan Friendship Cooperation and Solidarity Foundation, emphasized the ongoing efforts of the Azerbaijani government to international legal institutions such as the ECHR and the Hague Court of Justice due to the Khojaly Genocide. Attar explained that they support the call for "Justice for Khojaly" by using civil initiatives through such organizations.
Professor Attar continued:
"The events in Khojaly constitute a serious violation of the 1949 Geneva Conventions, the United Nations (UN) Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, the Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child. We regretfully condemn the failure of international legal institutions to take concrete steps to ensure justice, despite the 33rd year that has passed, and we reiterate our call for Justice in Khojaly with our joint organization."
The Khojaly Commemoration meeting, organized under the auspices of the Turkish Grand National Assembly in cooperation with the Azerbaijani Embassy in Turkey and the Turkey-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group, was attended by the Ombudsmen of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Turkey, and group deputy chairmen of the political parties under the roof of the Parliament, various civil society organizations, diplomatic missions in the capital and university students.
Before the commemoration meeting, a Khojaly Genocide art exhibition was opened in the foyer of the Public Relations Building of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye.
