Historical graves in Fethiye will be restored

Historical graves located in the garden of a tomb in the Fethiye district of Muğla will be restored. Archaeological excavations at Fethiye Castle, located in the Kesikkapı neighborhood, are continuing under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism 's General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums , in collaboration with the Muğla Governor's Office , the Fethiye District Governor's Office, the Fethiye Municipality, and the Fethiye Museum .
As part of the studies carried out under the scientific responsibility of Prof. Dr. Kadir Pektaş, under the direction of the Fethiye Museum , work has also begun in the historical cemetery in the region .
The graves in the cemetery adjacent to the Ahmet Gazi Tomb will be restored, and their identities will be determined. The Ottoman inscriptions on the stones will be translated into Turkish and placed next to the graves .
Prof. Dr. Kadir Pektaş said that next to the tomb there are ruins of a mosque, probably from the Menteşeoğlu era .
Pektaş, noting that the cemetery surrounding the tomb contains a small number of surviving graves and tombstones, particularly those from the Ottoman period , said, "We are currently reading the inscriptions on these gravestones. Following maintenance and cleaning work in the cemetery, we will carry out excavation and conservation work . We plan to rescue this area from its neglected state and make it accessible for visitors and visitors."
Pektaş explained that comprehensive restoration work will be carried out after the projects are approved.
"On a stone is written the old name of Fethiye, Meğri District Governor"
Pektaş, noting that they encountered names from the past administration of Fethiye on some of the gravestones they read , said, "One stone says 'Meğri Kaymakamı', the old name of Fethiye. Other names also appear on the stones. As is often the case with other gravestones , they include words like 'Learn from my situation, you too will die.' On one elegant gravestone, we came across a poem claiming to be next to Ahmet Gazi ."
Pektaş emphasized that they will obtain clues about Fethiye's recent history and the Ottoman Empire's final years from the gravestones , and noted the following:
"We will place plaques next to the restored gravestones , displaying the inscriptions and informing them of the graves' owners. Perhaps we will even reproduce the poems and inscriptions as they are, so people can easily read and learn. Those who visit the Ahmet Gazi Tomb will also have visited the adjacent cemetery. They will understand who the graves belong to and what is written on them."
