BACKGROUND OF THE EVENT
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into several social media influencers and celebrities, including Serdar Ortaç and Mehmet Ali Erbil, for allegedly advertising illegal betting and encouraging people to do so. As part of the investigation, a judicial control measure in the form of "house arrest" was imposed on Serdar Ortaç by the on-call judge on November 11, 2024, and it was ruled that this measure be lifted on November 26, 2024. The indictment prepared regarding the matter requested that Serdar Ortaç be sentenced to 1 to 3 years in prison for "advertising and otherwise encouraging people to play fixed-odds or pari-mutuel betting or games of chance based on sports competitions."
