Serdar Ortaç sentenced to prison

In November, many celebrities, including singer Serdar Ortaç and actor Mehmet Ali Erbil, were detained and an investigation was launched against them for "making illegal betting advertisements."
Serdar Ortaç, who did not accept the accusations against him in his defense regarding the images that led to his detention, said that two people he did not know picked him up from the airport in Malta, where he was invited to a hotel opening, and claimed that the broadcast was suddenly turned on while they were sitting in the hotel, and that he did not notice that there was a gambling advertisement on his clothing.
HE WAS SENTENCED TO 10 MONTHS IN PRISON
The public prosecutor, who announced his opinion on the merits of the case, requested that the defendant Serdar Ortaç be sentenced to imprisonment from 1 to 3 years and a fine of up to 3,000 days for "advertising and otherwise encouraging people to play fixed odds or pari-mutuel betting or games of chance based on sports competitions".
The court sentenced Ortaç to 10 months in prison and a fine of 400 TL, but the announcement of the verdict was postponed. Ortaç will not go to prison because the length of the sentence does not require detention.
