M6 and M5 traffic LIVE: Motorway crash causes huge 70-minute delays

Traffic chaos has hit as large delays were been reported on the M6 and M5 in the Black Country. The huge tailbacks are the result of a three-car collision that reportedly taken place on the northbound section of the M6 between J8, for the M5, and J9, Wednesbury.
In a statement, West Midlands Ambulance service confirmed that it was called to reports of a road traffic collision at junction 9 of the M6 Northbound near Palfrey at 8.15am.
A spokesperson said: "An ambulance was sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews discovered three cars had been involved in a collision.
"A woman was treated for injuries not believed to be serious and conveyed to Walsall Manor Hospital."
Lanes 1, 2 and 3 (of 4) had been closed on the M6 northbound between J8 (M5) and J9 (Wednesbury), but in a subsequent update National Highways said all lanes have reopened on the M6 but "residual delays" remain. A spokesperson said: "All lanes have re-opened on the M6 northbound between J8 (M5) and J9 (Wednesbury) following a collision."

Meanwhile, the A5 is closed between the A461 (MuckleyCorner) and A5148 M6Toll near #Lichfield following a separate incident, a vehicle fire, National Highways said.
Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service are on the scene.
There are delays of at least 20 minutes on approach, it added.
National Highways says all lanes have reopened on the M6 but "residual delays" remain.
A spokesperson said: "All lanes have re-opened on the M6 northbound between J8 (M5) and J9 (Wednesbury) following a collision.
"Long residual delays remain, please still allow extra time for your journey. Thank you for your patience."
In an update on X at 9.25am, National Highways: West Midlands wrote: "Lanes 1, 2 and 3 (of 4) are closed on the #M6 northbound between J8 (#M5) and J9 (Wednesbury) due to a collision.
"Emergency Services are working on scene. There are delays of at least 1 hour on the M6 northbound and on the M5 northbound approaching the M6."
