Sabrina Carpenter Won’t Reveal Which Exes Her Songs Are About: ‘It’s More Fun This Way’
THE RUNDOWN:
- Sabrina Carpenter has shared that she’d rather not reveal whom her songs are about.
- “It’s more fun for people to picture the person in their head than the person I picture in my head,” she told CBS Mornings.
- Her seventh studio album, Man’s Best Friend, is out now.
Sabrina Carpenter never wants to give it all away.
On August 29, the Grammy-winning artist sat down with Gayle King on CBS Mornings and shared that she prefers not to reveal the subjects of her songs. Some fans speculate that she might be singing about her ex-boyfriend, actor Barry Keoghan, on a few tracks from her latest album, Man’s Best Friend, and 2024’s Short n’ Sweet. “I just wouldn’t say,” she told King. “It’s more fun for people to picture the person in their head than the person I picture in my head, I think.”
When King asked her if she ever felt bad that Keoghan was getting a lot of backlash due to the fan rumors, she said, “I feel pretty transparent going into any of my relationships that I write songs, and I think they’re just as down for it. Most of the time, they’ve been pretty flattered when they get a song about them, good or bad. I think they’re just excited to get a shout-out.”
She made a similar point last year. In September 2024, she told W that she doesn’t want to put her romantic life on public display and would rather her songs remain open to interpretation. “I get why people are interested,” she said. “But they can listen to my album and decide for themselves what the songs are about.”
Carpenter released her seventh album, Man’s Best Friend, on August 29. Watch her full appearance on CBS Mornings below:
