Amazon Prime viewers have hailed a ‘brutal’ horror series as one of the best shows on screen after it received an impressive score on Rotten Tomatoes. Rotten Tomatoes is a pretty reliable source for determining whether a movie is worth the watch or not, with the odd exception, of course. TV shows rarely make it into the top 10 per cent, but this horror series released in 2016 has come out on top.

The anthology series Channel Zero, created by Nick Antosca, was released SkyFy in 2016 after it was greenlit for two six-episode, self-contained series. The first series, starring Brand Scott and Maria Sten, tells the story of a child psychologist who returns to his hometown.

The psychologist is determined to find out if his brother’s disappearance is somehow connected to a series of similar incidents and a bizarre children's television series that aired at the same time.

The second series follows a young woman and her group of friends who visit a house of horrors. But things quickly take a turn when they find themselves questioning whether it’s a tourist attraction or something more sinister.

After receiving rave reviews, the show was recommissioned for a furth two series on the flagship channel before it came to an end in 2019. The third series, titled the Butcher’s Block, depicts a young woman and her schizophrenic sister when they move to a city haunted by a series of disappearances.

After suspecting that they may be connected to a baffling rumour, they must work together to discover what is preying on the city’s residents.

The fourth and final series, which aired in 2019, follows Newlyweds Jillian and Tom, who have brought secrets into their marriage. When they discover a door in their basement, those secrets start the threaten their relationship – and their lives.

Despite the show coming to an end in 2019, loyal fans still hail this show as one of the best horror series’ to hit the airwaves. The show received a staggering 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with fans flooding to the comments to shower the series with praise online.

One reviewer penned: “This is by far one of my favourite things in the horror genre. It didn’t rely on tired jump scares and work out premises. It takes some of the best creepypasta ever written and builds a world around them without dishonouring their origins. It is a shame that so few people have seen the show.”

Another gushed: “Its 2019, this aired in 2016 and yet I’m still mega in love with it, just the fact that someone made a TV show based around stories that I have read is just amazing! When I first saw it, it almost gave me nightmares, just the visuals and the acting and just everything is so good!”

A third echoed: “Brutal imagery and a creative story make SyFy’s fourth season entitled ‘The Dream Door’ one of the best shows on television. The show definitely went in a direction I didn’t anticipate.

“Kudos on a very creative story. The imagery is brutal and genuinely frightening at times. Who wants to be drowned by a contortionist clown? Not I!!! Congrats to an excellent cast, Maria Sten as Jill and Brandon Scott as Tom were spot on as a couple we could care about and root for.”

A fourth chimed in with: “It was one of my favourite horror series’ of the past decade. I thought all seasons were great but The Dream Door in particular was really fantastic IMO. Wish they would bring it back, the possibilities are endless with the show and they could’ve done some really cool stories.”
