All About Saoirse Ronan’s Husband, Jack Lowden
Saoirse Ronan and Jack Lowden have been together for over five years. They tend to keep their lives together very private, but have posted some shots on social media as their relationship progressed.
In July 2024, it was reported that the couple had gotten secretly married. With just a few friends and family members present, they had a ceremony in Edinburgh, Scotland, around the weekend of July 20, 2024.
Here’s everything to know about Lowden and his relationship with Ronan so far.
Lowden is also an actor from Scotland, with a long career onstage. In 2013, he won both an Olivier Award and the Ian Charleson Award for his role as Oswald in Ibsen’s Ghosts. He’s also had some significant roles in film and TV, including Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk.
In 2020, he bought a home in west Cork with Ronan, but they also live in London, and have a terrier named Fran. The couple share a production company with producer Dominic Norris. Their film The Outrun stars Ronan.
In December 2018, Page Six reported they were dating after they were seen together at an after-party at Central Park’s Tavern on the Green. The pair played husband and wife in the film Mary Queen of Scots. Sightings of them over the next few years were sparse, and they infrequently appear together on social media. In 2020, the Daily Mail shared pics of them in London. In 2022, they were spotted at the Australian Open together. On New Year’s Eve 2023, Lowden shared a mirror selfie of them to celebrate.
In 2019, a reporter for The Telegraph asked Ronan, “Am I allowed to ask if you’re going out with the person that everyone thinks you’re going out with?”
Ronan responded, “No.”
Earlier that year, Lowden was asked about Ronan by ES Magazine and answered the same way, but with more words.
“Oh I’m not going to talk about that. I don’t like talking about that side of life,” he said. “Most of the actors I know live pretty normal lives, it’s just every now and again they have to do something ridiculous or extraordinary. My life hasn’t changed. People seem more interested—I guess that’s changed, for sure.”
Lowden has gushed about Ronan when talking about her acting, in an interview with i newspaper.
“The woman is a force of nature, on- and off-screen, and utterly fearless and a brilliant leader as well,” he said. “My first love is actors, and when you’re given a Ferrari like her, it’s all about how you make everything good for the Ferrari to show off. Don’t make a Ferrari do what a Renault Clio does. It’s a dreadful analogy, but they’re like gold dust, good actors. When there’s someone like that, you just have to facilitate them and you will get gold. And my God, did we.”
He praised her again in a March 2025 interview with The Times, saying that seeing her perform in Mary Queen of Scots inspired him to keep acting and not quit. “There was me at 27 thinking about stopping because I felt self-conscious or like I didn’t know how to do it,” he said. “And then watching this 23-year-old carry the weight of a huge film like that with ease and grace and majesty. It was remarkable to watch. She makes it look so easy, like breathing. It was totally inspiring.”
They walked the red carpet in September 2024.The pair made their debut on the carpet as a married couple at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sept. 15, 2024. Lowden wore a classic black tux with satin lapels. Ronan was wearing a custom Louis Vuitton two piece with a sleeveless top and trailing skirt. Around her neck, she wore a stunning diamond necklace by Bulgari.
In an interview with USA Today, Ronan shared that she once thought she’d “never” have a partner or a “beautiful network” of people because her career kept her so busy.
“My life has become so much more than just work,” Ronan said. “For a long time, that’s all I did; that’s how I met people and made sense of the world.”
She continued, “I feel like I’m part of a group, which I never thought I would have. I used to think, ‘You’ll never have friends. You’ll never have a partner.’ I was so in my own world, in a lot of ways. So now, to feel like I’ve got a very rich personal and social life—it’s so precious to me.”
In March 2025, Lowden discussed the couple’s hopes to work together again.Lowden offered rare comments on his relationship with Ronan in his The Times interview. When asked how they keep their marriage strong as two actors whose jobs sometimes require travel, he said, “[We] just have to check in with each other a lot. Obviously it made it a lot easier when we worked on the same project.”
They plan to work together again, he added, “but the question is, how do we do it, because Saoirse, she has ambitions as well to direct.”
Do they have any kids?On May 22, Ronan made an appearance at the Louis Vuitton Cruise at Palais Des Papes in Avignon, France, wearing a semi-sheer dress by the fashion house that revealed she and Lowden are expecting their first child. The silky black gown was covered in matching black lace trim and folded around her body, showing off her black sandals under the asymmetrical skirt.
