BBC University Challenge viewers left gobsmacked over contestants rude outburst

University Challenge contestant quick to answer question about Robert Koch
University Challenge viewers were stunned by one answer during the quiz.
Amol Rajan returned as the host for the popular BBC quiz show as she welcomed a new team of students. This year's cohort will go head to head in a bid to gain the title from Imperial College London, who won the title for the fifth time last year. Monday's episode saw UCL go up against Cambridge's Darwin College.
Competing for UCL were Calum Jack, Josh Mandel, Olivia Holtermann Entwistle and Sanjay Prabhakar. Meanwhile, Rebecca McClelland, Sophie Willis, Harrison Whitaker and Rowan Stewart were representing Darwin in the tense challenges. During the latest instalment on Monday, Amol asked: "Born in 1843, which German scientist gives his name to a set of four postulates, sometimes also named for Jakob Henle, that may be applied to determine whether a disease is caused by a..."
Moments after this, one contestant buzzed in to answer the question. Sophie, who was on the Darwin, Cambridge, team answered: "Koch?," to which Amol responded: "It is Robert Koch, well done." However, the moment did not go unnoticed on social media with many being left in fits of laughter over the response.
"I think the question setter for #UniversityChallenge gets someone to shout c**k to boost the twitter algorithm," said one. Meanwhile, a second penned: "It's not a coincidence is it, when the question setters give someone the opportunity to say things such as c**k and tit at Amol as answers to questions."
"Somebody has just won a bet in the question writing department on #UniversityChallenge #C**k," added a third. Meanwhile, a fourth went on to write: "If I appeared on #UniversityChallenge and my only contribution was shouting c**k (Koch) at Amol Rajan, I'd be happy."
While the first starter got off to a rough start, both teams managed to get on track throughout the tense, with Darwin leading during the music round with 135 - 35. As the show came to a conclusion, Darwin were on fire with eight buzzers in the starts, while Josh secured five for UCL, however, both teams managed to get one penalty each.
In a recent episode, an Imperial College London contestant turned into an overnight sensation, hailed as an "absolute machine" for his role in defeating Wadham College, Oxford. Jaime Salamanca Camacho, an MSc student in Quantum Fields and Fundamental Forces in London, wowed audiences with his performance that guaranteed his team's triumph in a nail-biting second-round face-off.
The Imperial squad decimated their opponents, leaving viewers stunned as they surged to a massive lead of 290 points to Wadham's zero with mere minutes to spare. Although the Oxford college managed a modest surge of 25 points, they were no match for Imperial's colossal finish of 345 points.
Presenter Amol couldn't conceal his surprise, proclaiming: "Well, what can I say? (Wadham) you were up against an absolutely ludicrous team. I mean, they are absolutely phenomenal."
He added, admiring both teams, "No one could be in any doubt watching you what a bunch of enormously brilliant and clever young people you are, so thank you so much for playing so well. Imperial, that's a big score and it's going to scare the other people. Well done."
