Dancing with the Stars Return Not Confirmed by RTÉ

The future of Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) on RTÉ remains uncertain despite its popularity, as the show was notably absent from the broadcaster’s newly announced schedule for Autumn 2025 to Spring 2026. Here’s what we know about the situation.

DWTS Missing from RTÉ’s New Schedule

RTÉ unveiled its programming lineup for late 2025 to spring 2026 on August 21, 2025. The schedule includes new shows like The Traitors Ireland and returning favorites such as The Late Late Show and Ireland’s Fittest Family. However, Dancing with the Stars was not listed among them, raising questions about its return.

Larry Bass stated: “These things take time. The summer doesn’t help… but hopefully we will be doing a series, but until there is a contract, there is nothing contracted”

Larry Bass on Ongoing Negotiations

Larry Bass, head of ShinAwiL, the production company behind DWTS, confirmed that talks with RTÉ are still ongoing. He expressed optimism but emphasized that nothing is finalized without a signed contract. Bass noted that he would be “shocked and stunned” if RTÉ decided to axe the show at this stage.

Bass explained: “If you ask me what percentage would say the show will be back, I’d say 80% plus that it will be back, but until we have a contract, I can’t confirm anything”

RTÉ’s Statement and Future Plans

An RTÉ spokesperson indicated that an official announcement regarding DWTS would likely come during the spring schedule launch in December. The broadcaster’s current focus remains on its new and returning programs, including dramas and sports coverage.

A spokesperson said: “An announcement will be made ahead of the station’s spring schedule launch in December.”

The Show’s Legacy and Fan Hopes

Dancing with the Stars has been a staple on RTÉ One since its debut in 2017. Its eighth series, which aired in early 2025, concluded with gymnast Rhys McClenaghan and professional dancer Laura Nolan winning the title. Fans are hopeful that negotiations will lead to its return in January 2026.
