One of the greatest TV satires is now completely free to watch on the BBC

The BBC iPlayer is currently offering free streaming of one of the most acclaimed political satires ever produced, reports Surrey Live.

All seasons of the show are available as a boxset for viewers to enjoy.

Originally broadcast from 2005 to 2012, the series boasts four seasons, several specials and even a Hollywood film spin-off.

One viewer gave a glowing review on IMDb, rating it 10/10: "Possibly one of the greatest pieces of television in any genre.

"I have just finished series three, and am left feeling totally in awe of everyone involved in this programme."

"As a huge fan of The Wire, I am glad that one does not have to judge the merit of a programme in terms of how it rates against another."

Another IMDb user echoed these sentiments: "10 stars out of 10 is just simply not enough! This series warrants at least 11. IMDb is largely US based (I think? ) but I can't believe there's only 9 reviews for this series?".

A third person chimed in: "Calling this sharp and funny just doesn't do it justice. It's a bit of a cliché to describe it as "Yes Minister" for the 21st century, but it does fit rather well.

"Any British person who has followed the news over the last few years will be painfully familiar with "spin" as practised by the current government of the United Kingdom."

Meanwhile, a fourth viewer confessed: "I am mortified that I have only just picked up on this wonderful series in the past 6 weeks! !

"I had read that it was good but felt I couldn't commit to another "must watch" TV series.

"However against my better judgement I recorded one programme to see what all the fuss was about. I was totally blown away by the whole thing."

The Thick of It, masterminded by Armando Iannucci, delved into the chaotic world of British politics, showcasing the tumultuous relationship between politicians, their aides, spin doctors, and civil servants.

The series boasted a stellar ensemble including Peter Capaldi, Rebecca Front, Chris Addison, Joanna Scanlan, Roger Allam, Vincent Franklin, Olivia Poulet, Will Smith, and Ben Willbond.

Yet it was Capaldi's portrayal of the vitriolic, swearword-spewing spin doctor Malcolm Tucker that truly captivated audiences.

Building on The Thick of It's acclaim, the film In the Loop featured Capaldi alongside Tom Hollander, Gina McKee, James Gandolfini, and Chris Addison, earning BAFTA Film and Oscar nods for Best Adapted Screenplay.

The success of The Thick of It also paved the way for HBO's Veep, another brainchild of Iannucci, which shared its sharp satirical humour.

Veep chronicled the political journey of fictional US Vice President Selina Meyer, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, spanning seven seasons and bagging multiple Emmys throughout its tenure.
