Outrageous star says they'd be 'mad' not to make season 2 of gripping period drama

The stars of Outrageous are buzzing with anticipation for a return in the second series of the enthralling historical drama after this week's high-profile premiere.

Launching on U, U&Drama and BritBox this Thursday (19th June), the six-episode debut season delves into the lives of Nancy Mitford (played by Bessie Carter) and her five sisters as they rise to infamy during the 1930s.

With Nancy carving out a name for herself as an esteemed author and journalist, her siblings were busy either flouting societal conventions or mingling with fascists.

Stripping back the nostalgia for a pivotal time in British history, fans are eager to know whether Outrageous will revisit the notorious Mitford saga for a second series. James Purefoy, who brings the character of the Mitford patriarch to life, believes: "They'd be mad not to, I think."

At the series' London launch, Purefoy and his co-stars expressed unanimous excitement at the prospect of continuing the story.

He remarked confidently, "I think it's a great show and there's a lot more meat on these bones," highlighting that the narrative has only reached the year 1937, indicating plenty more drama lies ahead.

Featuring Bridgerton's Bessie Carter as Nancy, the sizzling period piece introduces us to an array of both seasoned talents and fresh faces portraying the Mitford family. Anna Chancellor takes on the role of the steadfast matriarch, while upcomers Joanna Vanderham and Shannon Watson step into the shoes of Diana and Unity, the fascist allies, reports the Mirror.

Isobel Jesper Jones embodies Pamela Mitford, a figure renowned for challenging gender expectations of the era.

Zoe Brough and Orla Hill take on the roles of the youngest Mitford sisters, Jessica and Deborah, while Toby Regbo steps into the shoes of the sole brother, Tom Mitford.

Jones hints at a tantalising second season, revealing: "There is so much history to cover. It's the tip of the iceberg, there's so much more they go on to do."

She further divulges her eagerness to delve into Pamela's life beyond the 1930s, stating: "Pamela's story, in particular, is so interesting beyond the 1930s. I really hope that we'll get to do that. If anything it gets more chaotic and more outrageous."

Hill shares this enthusiasm, expressing her keenness to explore her character's evolution: "I would love to.

"I'm desperate to because Deborah starts to come out to society and then had a crazy, teenage... her sweet 16 was pretty [crazy], hanging out with the Kennedys.

"One of the most interesting things about Outrageous is you have all those really famous historical figures that we know just trickling in.

"Having some of that for my character's storyline would be really fun."

The show's debut featuring a surprise appearance by Winston Churchill (Robert Daws) underscores the Mitfords' significant connections within early 20th Century British high society.

With a wealth of history yet to be explored, fans can expect a potential second season to be studded with celebrity cameos and even more sensational insights into the lives of the Mitford siblings.
