EasyGroup Loses ‘Rest Easy’ Trademark Lawsuit Against Premier Inn

The UK High Court has ruled that Premier Inn’s use of the slogan “Rest easy” does not infringe trademarks owned by EasyGroup. The decision, handed down Friday, dismissed claims that the hotel chain unlawfully piggybacked on the “Easy” brand, which is owned by Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou.
It marks a significant legal win for Premier Inn, but the dispute is not over. EasyGroup said it will appeal the ruling and issued a statement questioning the court’s understanding of modern branding and digital competition.
“This is clearly the wrong decision. It contains clear errors of law that I am confident will be overturned on appeal,” said Haji-Ioannou, who founded EasyJet and EasyHotel.
For its part, Premier Inn welcomed the judgment. “The judge has reached the right decision. We thank him for the detailed judgment he has handed down,” a Premier Inn spokespers
