Gavin Newsom signed the California budget and made a special gesture to the Latino community.

California Governor Gavin Newsom signed the 2025 state budget bill into law on Friday, June 27. In his social media announcement, the Democrat included a nod to the Golden State's Latino community .
The territory will implement a "responsible and balanced" spending plan aimed at maintaining long-term fiscal health, the state government's official statement said. The plan includes historic policies to accelerate housing production and was endorsed by Senate President Mike McGuire and Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas .
Newsom shared a message on his official X profile and gave a nod to the Latino community, writing the announcement in Spanish. “I signed a budget agreement that shows California won't settle for the status quo, but will go even further,” the Democrat said.
And he continued: “ We are dramatically reducing bureaucracy and boosting housing and infrastructure development , preserving essential health services, funding universal pre-kindergarten education, and cutting taxes for veterans .”
In that regard, the Golden State government took aim at US President Donald Trump for engaging in "economic sabotage." "This budget agreement demonstrates that California will not only stand firm (...), it is balanced, maintains substantial reserves, and is focused on supporting Californians."
For his part, Rivas addressed the Republican president's measures and their impact on Californians. " Trump is undermining our economy with reckless tariffs , drastic cuts, and ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents terrorizing our communities," he said.
And he continued, according to the official statement : “At a time when so many are already struggling, fear and instability are rising. In contrast, Democrats have put forward a budget that protects California .”
The official emphasized the streamlining of the housing construction process, which he defined as "the foundation of affordability and opportunity." He also highlighted investments in healthcare, education, and public safety. "It fulfills our commitment to not raise taxes on families, workers, or small businesses," he noted.
The Newsom administration provided details about the recently approved plan. The administration emphasized that the budget is intended to protect the Golden State's status as the fourth-largest economy in the world.
In this way, it will support businesses in their economic growth , and one of its focuses will be on the film industry, where it will expand the tax credit program to $750 million annually.
The budget also includes essential social security programs, such as home care and reproductive health, as well as investments in public education (with free school meals and summer courses). It also aims to strengthen vocational training and higher education, and reduce class sizes to achieve greater impact.
