Letters from the editor: Supreme Court judges have lost their memory, without a budget

Letters from the editor: Supreme Court judges have lost their memory, without a budget

They lost their memory

The sensitive and forgetful Peronist-Kirchnerist legislators, resorting to distressed speeches, prevent President Javier Milei from solving the problems they themselves created for 20 years with so much effort. They destroyed education, health care, social security, employment, pensions, justice, and culture, and forced the most talented to emigrate. Their euphemistically self-styled "social leaders" called the "slums" "popular neighborhoods," which they expanded exponentially with the argument of "social justice." They ensured that 4,000,000 children are malnourished, and that others as young as 10 years old cannot write their names, add, or subtract. They left high school unable to understand a text. They stole from every cash register they could find, exploiting the neediest to obtain huge profits. Their boss is in prison for corruption. They remember nothing, not what they've done in the last 80 years, not the Olivos Festival, not the inflation under Cristina and Massa. All they need to do is advise the Nordic countries (Finland, Norway, Sweden) to apply "the twenty truths of Justicialism" to lift their inhabitants out of poverty.

Judges of the Court

The United States, 340 million inhabitants, 9 Supreme Court justices; Argentina, 44 million inhabitants, 5 members. Senator Mayans and the political establishment can explain the reasons for almost doubling the current membership. It has been revealed that the aforementioned legislator would like "at least three" of the new judges to be elected by his bloc. I must remind you that the judiciary is one of the three branches of the republic; members must be selected for their background, knowledge, and merit, in no way for their partisan affiliation. Furthermore, the cost of this excessive increase does not respond to the country's necessary fiscal austerity policy.

No budget

During the lamentable session of the Chamber of Deputies, as usual, Dr. López Murphy was one of the few voices of sanity and honesty amidst so much accusation, rudeness, and lies. He simply focused on what no one else says: that this kind of coven wouldn't happen if there were a 2025 budget. As the law and rationality dictate. Given the course of events this past year, it seems that neither the ruling party nor the opposition in general are particularly interested in this...

Argentina has a presidential, not a parliamentary, regime. Therefore, Parliament should not interfere in matters of budget allocations, which would already be defined in the budget if one existed. The Executive Branch would use them and would have to respect them, just as they were approved. The Legislative Branch is there to legislate, no more, no less... But a large part of the so-called "people" continue to shout from one side to the other, without listening or thinking...

The virtuous Argentina

Reading journalist Luciano Román's articles is always moving.

But the one published last Thursday is exceptional. I suggest reading it slowly, savoring every word and feeling what the writer wants to convey in each paragraph. The profound emotion it will produce will come naturally.

Thank you very much, Mr. Román.

Origin

Which political party did Rodríguez Larreta, Patricia Bullrich, Ritondo, and Santilli (who in recent months have been responsible for destroying the party that made them famous and that was the only alternative to Argentina's populist two-party system) originally belong to? Peronism.

No more questions, Your Honor.

Functions of the Columbus

While I understand that, from an administrative standpoint, the Teatro Colon belongs to the city of Buenos Aires, it is no less true that it enjoys the prestige of being one of the most important in the world. Unfortunately, this theater's performances are practically exclusive to the Buenos Aires City and Greater Buenos Aires audiences, so it would be very important and necessary for the world-class shows it offers to be seen by all Argentinians, not necessarily live, but they could be broadcast on Public Television for the enjoyment of all citizens who love music.

Infractions

Every day, we Buenos Aires residents suffer in traffic as trucks double-park on every street, loading and unloading at all hours. Last Sunday, the end of winter break, the city's tow trucks were circling everywhere, lifting cars. Some of them only because one of their wheels barely touched a yellow curb. Speechless.

Colapinto

Much of the Argentine sports press must accept that from the outset it has exaggerated the performance of driver Franco Colapinto, trying to show that we are faced with another Fangio or another Reutemann. Now we read that the European press is suggesting a "campaign" against the driver, when in reality, months ago, one of its main German newspapers was already calling him a "car crasher." I think he's a very nice and down-to-earth guy, but there's a huge gap between that and being a motorsports star. Not having won a single point in all the races he's participated in is proof enough. Let's be reasonable.
