In its Help Center, WhatsApp reports that some operating systems are periodically no longer supported, as Meta seeks to keep up with technological advances.

Every month, this application issues an alert for phones that no longer meet the necessary requirements to support updates, security patches and new features.

Taking into account the age of the devices and the number of users, here is the list of cell phones that will lose access to this messaging service in March 2025.

For devices with an outdated operating system, WhatsApp will notify them that they need to update to continue using the application. If you receive such a warning, it is best to change to another phone model or make a backup so as not to lose conversations and important information.

On Android, this Meta App is compatible with version 5.0 and later. Remember that if your phone has an older operating system, you will no longer be able to download WhatsApp and enjoy its features.

On iOS, the instant messaging app will only support devices running version 15.1 or later starting May 5, 2025. Currently, it works on phones running iOS 12 and later.

To check your operating system version, go to the Settings app: on Android, at the bottom you will find the “About phone” section, which displays this information; on iOS, you should look for “General” and then “About”, where you will see the information.
