Child killed after collision with boat: Fisherman tests positive for drugs
An eight-year-old boy died Wednesday in a collision between his small dinghy and a fishing boat in the Arcachon Bay. An investigation into manslaughter has been opened.

The professional fisherman on the boat involved in a collision that resulted in the death of a child on Wednesday in the Arcachon basin (Gironde), tested positive for cocaine and cannabis, BFMTV learned from a police source, confirming information from Sud-Ouest .

According to the same source, his police custody was extended for an additional 24 hours this Thursday. The circumstances of the tragedy and the link to drug use remain to be determined.

The local fire department was alerted on Wednesday around 3:30 p.m. to an accident between a fishing boat and an Optimist boat in the Arcachon Bay near the Arcachon Sailing Club. The victim, an 8-year-old child, died at the scene.

The Bordeaux prosecutor's office had opened an investigation into manslaughter. A medical-psychological emergency unit was immediately activated. A total of fifteen children and five adults were also affected.
