Farm building fire kills over 300 calves in Dordogne

Shortly before 7 p.m., more than 40 firefighters responded to a fire in a 2,000 m² agricultural shed containing 380 calves in stables. In total, 1,000 m² of the building burned, but the firefighters stopped the spread to adjoining buildings. Only 52 calves were saved from the flames. Veterinarians from the Dordogne Fire Department, as well as private veterinarians, were involved in this operation. Seventeen people who had inhaled smoke were examined by the firefighter doctor present. After coordination with the emergency medical services (SAMU), no victims were evacuated. According to initial reports, the fire started in an agricultural machine and was brought under control at 8 p.m.
