Storm alert in the Var: a water rescue underway in the Lavandou area

Around one hundred firefighters from the Var region are currently deployed to the Bormes-Le Lavandou area, where heavy rainfall has been occurring since Tuesday morning. Six flood control units and four swift water rescue units are currently operating in Cavalière, in the commune of Le Lavandou, which has been particularly hard hit by the rain. According to the SDIS (Fire Brigade for Disaster Relief), rescues and efforts to secure people trapped in vehicles are underway.

As of 10:30 a.m., around fifteen interventions have already been recorded . While the Var department has been on orange alert since the beginning of the morning for thunderstorms, rain and flooding, the Var SDIS is reminding people of the importance of "limiting their movements and staying away from waterways."

Firefighters report that the "FR Alert" feature (a public alert and information system) has been activated in the affected municipalities to urge residents to comply with the safety measures issued by the Var prefecture. "It is important to limit your movements and stay away from waterways."

In Bormes, the RD 98 in the Dom forest is closed to traffic. The entrance to Cavalière is also closed to traffic in Le Lavandou.
