SURVEY - Between economic benefits, cultural outreach, and heritage preservation, these events are a source of pride for our villages, towns, departments, and regions. A cultural exception that the world envies us.

What would France be without its festivals ? This is the question being asked by artists and cultural figures. But also by many elected officials who, despite the prevailing music, remain convinced of the importance of these events for their regions. Certainly, the festival phenomenon, a French specialty created over 150 years ago, is resilient.

Over time, many have demonstrated their ability to adapt. And their numbers continue to grow. This is revealed by the recently published study "Creation and Future of Festivals in France," commissioned by the Ministry of Culture . It identified 262 festivals that disappeared between 2014 and 2019: 8% of the events recorded in 2014. At the same time, however, it estimates that twice as many festivals were created between 2010 and 2019 than before the year 2000.
