Summer exhibitions: discover the medieval fortifications of the Voironnais region

Conceived as part of a partnership between MALP and PAH Voironnais (Pays d'art et d'histoire), the exhibition Fortifications, the territory in the Middle Ages takes us back a thousand years to discover the first castles and fortifications in the Pays Voironnais territory, designed to defend a city, monitor a strategic point or to materialize the power of a lord. Motte, rocca, fortified or built village thus outline the history of the territory that today covers the Pays Voironnais.

From the shores of Lake Paladru to the mountain peaks, passing through the Isère Valley, visitors are immersed in the fascinating and mysterious world of medieval remains. Echoing the exhibition and throughout the year, the MALP is hosting a major cultural season with guided tours, evening visits, performances, and numerous conferences.
We will mention “Chronicles of excavations”, an evening exploring the fortified sites around Colletière – Le Châtelard and La Louvatière – with the archaeologists responsible for the excavations.
Many workshops for children, such as making a medieval scarecrow or creating horses that were present in Colletière in the Middle Ages, will be available. Adults will be able to create, among other things, a leather object while discovering how the material was worked and what its real uses were in the Middle Ages!
Fortifications, the territory in the Middle Ages – From June 12 to March 8, 2026 at MALP
